Volunteer in Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands have long been steeped in a kind of ecological lore. Vast, sweeping beaches, rare, endemic species, all wrapped up in a set of volcanic islands that straddle the equator. In an effort to protect the exceptional, thriving beauty of this incredibly special place, it is important that conservation and education efforts are designed around knowledge of and respect for its inhabitants.

This is where you can help

IOI works with local authorities, the Galapagos National Park, schools, universities, and other international nonprofits to ensure that all its efforts are consistent with the needs of the local habitats and community. Collaboration and contribution are built into the ethos of IOI and by working together, we’re ensuring that the wild and beautiful landscape of the Galapagos remain protected and thriving for centuries to come. Come join us in Galapagos on one of the following projects or, if you’re interested in more than one project, we’d be happy to combine projects with a minimum stay of 2 weeks on each project (3 week minimum for teaching English). Come join us!

Top 3 Reasons to Become an IOI Volunteer in the Galapagos

1)  It is a unique opportunity to gain insight and firsthand experience into the worlds of hands-on conservation and environmental management.

2)  There’s no place on Earth like it! No hyperbole. In terms of geography, ecology, and wildlife, the Galapagos Islands are an unrivaled combination of exceptional beauty.

3)  It’s a slow lane kind of place. If you need a break, this is your ideal escape. In the words of one Galapagos volunteer, “Like the endemic wildlife of the Galapagos I have adapted from the bustling streets of London to the peaceful, methodical island life of Isabela.”
